The Father - Omnipresent

Colossians 1:16-17 (ESV) ¹⁶ For by^[f] him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. ¹⁷ And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

One of the most comforting, and most well remembered facts about God is that He is absolutely “everywhere at all times.” This is a true statement! One of the core attributes of God is that He is Omnipresent. That is, He is present in all places at all times across all of Creation!

What an utterly flooring truth…I struggle to multitask in my home when my youngest daughter has her head stuck in her hoodie while she is trying to put it on, and my wife needs help killing a spider on the other end of the house. (True story!) My head was spinning as my youngest, screaming in frustrated rage at her hoodie that had betrayed her, in combination with the wailing of my fair wife across the house whose very life was in danger at the presence of a jumping spider on the kitchen counter. Trying to be present to save both of my girls in this scenario was fully impossible. So, I had to choose only one. (I’ll leave it up to you to guess whom I picked!)

Yet God is fully able to be in both scenarios and fully present at the same time. Let’s zoom out a bit on that. This is one micro-cosm of existence…there are a few dozen homes in our neighborhood. What about what was happening in all of those places at this exact time? Yes, He was there. Zoom out again. Our city of approximately 70,000 individuals….yet again, God effortlessly is able to be present in all of the scenarios across that one city at the same time. Now the scope of this goes across all of Creation!

Yet, what if I were to challenge you to think a little more differently about the Omnipresence of God? What we said above was very true. God is present in spirit at all times and places. Yet, let’s look at the Scripture. When we understand that God wove creation itself into being, and His divine fingerprint is on all things, He is present through His creation as well! INCLUDING US!

Now, it would be foolish and heretical to say that the trees are God and that we are God….yet there is a truth that He exists in His creation! Psalm 19 tells us that the very heavens, and His creation declare and reflect His very glory! To a point, He exists through these things as well. Both in spirit but also as a reminder to His Children!

You see God is not merely a being…but further, He IS being. Across all time and space and Creation, God was there. Before ever there was a semblance of existence…The Father was present. In the future in which we do not know nor see, He is already present!

As is typical of all things related to God…He goes beyond the ordinary, through the ordinary. As you go about life this week, look upon all things you see in knowing that God Himself is present in the very Creation that we enjoy and are blessed to exist in.

He wove it all together for His Glory, and for our good. May God reveal Himself to you in ways you never dreamed up…and do so through the most mundane.
