State of Man - Beloved

Romans 5:6-8 (ESV) ⁶ For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. ⁷ For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— ⁸ but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Have you ever looked at yourself and thought, “Man, I’m seriously unlovable.” Thinking to yourself that there is NO way anyone could ever love you. You know yourself better than anyone else…you know the darkest secrets of your heart and mind that nobody else can truly fathom.

To quote Henry David Thoreau…”I am the most evil man that I know.” This is the challenge of being yourself is that you know…yourself.

Now take all off that knowledge you have about yourself. Take the depths of your depravity and sin. Take the worst of the worst of the worst things you have done or thought about doing. Take them and ask yourself…”am I lovable?” ”nobody could love me if they knew.”

Take those things and cast them into the garbage bin where they belong. They are LIES!

Your sins, and let’s be honest with yourself, they ARE sins…are an affront to God. This is true. You missed the mark that God set to use the archery terminology that the word “sin” derives from.

Yet here is the utterly mind-blowing truth. There is no amount of sin that you can take part in that is so terrible, that it can surpass the infinite grace of God. You cannot out sin His mercy. Period. Hard stop. Drop the mic and walk away! To say that your sin is so horrendous that even God is incapable of bestowing love and mercy, is to say that you are in some way greater than He is. That sounds silly doesn’t it?

You may then interject, “Yeah but if you only knew! You don’t know what I’ve done!” You’re right…I don’t know. However, God DOES know. In that He already has love for you and desires to forgive you of it.

Look at the scripture…WHILE WE WERE STILL WEAK! Before you were saved Christian, you were already beloved. Remember who holds the pen…it isn’t you! Christ died for the ungodly…guess who that is? That’s right…that’s US. And then the magnum opus hammer drop…God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners…Christ died for us.

If you are a believer, know that right in this moment, all that weight that is upon you, it is not yours to carry. He already finished it and His yoke is light. Put it down and be at peace with this!

If you are not a believer and God somehow brought you to this humble devotion, you too are not so unworthy or so undesirable that He doesn’t want you. He doesn’t simply want you…he wants YOU. There is hope, peace and joy for you that you have never experienced before! Repent of your old life (that just means turn away) and embrace the truth that Christ died for the sins of those whom place their sincere faith upon Him and Him alone! You too will know this burden lifted! Not at all based on what YOU do but only based on what HE did!

This truth I pray is one you carry with you all of your days…you are the beloved of the King!
